Carl Fisher serves as the Headmaster and Science Teacher at St. Athanasius & St. Catherine’s Academy.
Prior to being Assistant Headmaster, Carl received his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Saint Joseph’s College in Indiana. After graduation, Carl did a year of service in Costa Rica, living with a host family and experiencing the “Tico” way of life. He credits the philosophical and faith-filled conversations he had with his host family for being a major influence in his pursuit of Catholic Education.
Upon returning from Costa Rica, he received his Master’s Degree in Teaching (M.A.T.) from Marian University and Master’s Degree in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Kansas City-Missouri. Before teaching at St. Athanasius & St. Catherine’s Academy, Carl taught science in both public and Diocesan schools. From a Catholic Faith perspective, Carl would describe his experience of studying the intricacies of Biology at the cellular level as standing behind and watching the “hands” of the sculptor or “paintbrush” of the painter (God) in seeing their creation. Understanding science at a deeper level allowed for a deepened understanding for God’s design and ultimately growth in his Catholic Faith.
Carl has a heart for the youth and seeks to develop authentic, supportive, and loving relationships with his students. His hope with a classical education, specifically in teaching the sciences, is to encourage wonder, seek truth, and reveal what is good and beautiful in our world. He desires to use the subjects he teaches as bridges to deeper faith-filled conversations and introspection, ultimately guiding students to grow in knowing and loving God more deeply.
