Steve Scott serves as the physical education teacher as well as the coordinator for the physical education program for both the boys and girls. He also serves as a member of the SASC school board.
Mr. Scott is a 1975 graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City with a B.A., majoring in sociology and physical education. He was employed by the Kansas City, Missouri Parks and Recreation Department for over 36 years where he served as a community center director and is now retired from that position. In addition to his managerial duties, Mr. Scott coached a variety of sports from judo to basketball. As a judo coach, he developed numerous athletes from the Kansas City area who competed in national and international events including the Olympic Games, World Championships and Pan American Championships. Mr. Scott served as the official U.S. team coach for both the World and Pan American Championships as well as numerous other international events. He has extensive experience coaching at national and international judo training camps at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is ranked as an 8th Degree Black Belt in judo. He is the author of 23 published books and numerous technical articles for national judo publications.
In 2024, Mr. Scott was selected by the Positive Coaching Alliance and as one of the top physical education coaches in the United States. He has also won national coaching awards in previous years from the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and United States Judo, Inc. (the governing body for judo in the United States).
